Dental Veneers – Everything You Need to Know

05-11-2021

What are dental veneers?

Dental veneers are thin, translucent shells that are permanently fixed to the front of the patient’s teeth. They are made from either composite resin or porcelain. They provide a bright, clean and healthy look which enhances the smile and boosts confidence.

Veneers are a natural-looking cosmetic enhancement that can be attached to individual teeth or several teeth. They are strong, reliable, and aesthetically pleasing.

The Benefits of Dental Veneers

Durable – Dental veneers are strong and durable. They can last up to eight years.

Stain-resistant – Veneers are white and stain-free. If cared for correctly, they will remain this way for the duration.

Natural appearance – They blend in with your other teeth with a natural look.

Kind to gums – They do not agitate gums.

Low maintenance – You can care for your dental veneers like you would care for your regular teeth.

Confidence – For many people, veneers give a tremendous confidence boost. They enable patients to show off a smile they are proud of.

Versatile – Dental veneers can be used to cover broken, cracked or stained teeth. They are bespoke to the patient.

The Process of Having Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are usually fitted over three appointments. The first will be your consultation, the second will be planning the treatment, and the third will be the fitting. The out layer of enamel on the tooth or teeth your veneers will be fixed to will be removed, and impressions will be taken. You may have temporary veneers while you wait for your bespoke ones to be made.

A gel is placed on the teeth as well as a bonding agent. The veneers are fixed on with dental cement, which is set using a curing light.

What is the Cost of Dental Veneers?

The cost of your treatment will vary depending on the type of veneers you have. Contact a dental specialist, such as The Gallery Dental Centre, to discuss price plans in detail. As a general rule, NHS veneers cost around £200. Private veneers will range from £200-£600 per tooth for composite and £500-£1000 for porcelain.

Each treatment plan will differ, and everything should be discussed with you at your initial consultation. Overall, veneers are a worthwhile, long-lasting investment.
